Release Manager

Position Overview

The Release Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, scheduling, and coordination of software releases. The candidate will ensure that the releases are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the quality standards of the organization. The Release Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams, including development, testing, operations, and project management.

Internal Relationships

You’ll report to and be supported by our Chief Product & Technology Officer.

Working with: The Release Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams within the organization to manage and execute the software release process. The key internal working relationships for the Release Manager include:

  • Development Teams: The Release Manager will work closely with the development teams to ensure that the software releases are of high quality, meet the requirements of the stakeholders, and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Product Teams: The Release Manager will work with the product teams to ensure that the software releases are thoroughly tested and meet the quality standards of the organization.
  • Operations Teams: The Release Manager will work with operations teams to ensure that the software releases are deployed and maintained in production environments.
  • Senior Management: The Release Manager will provide regular updates to senior management on release status, progress, and risks, and seek their support and guidance when needed.

External Relationships

As a Release Manager, the candidate will also be required to develop and manage relationships with external stakeholders to ensure that the software releases meet their needs and requirements. The key external relationships for the Release Manager include:

  • Customers: The Release Manager will work closely with customers to ensure that the software releases meet their expectations and requirements. The candidate will also communicate release status and progress to customers and manage customer feedback and concerns.
  • Vendors and Suppliers: The Release Manager will work with vendors and suppliers to ensure that their products and services are integrated into the software releases and that they meet quality standards.
  • Regulators and Compliance Bodies: The Release Manager will work with regulators and compliance bodies to ensure that the software releases meet regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Industry Associations and Standards Bodies: The Release Manager will participate in industry associations and standards bodies to stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices and to ensure that the software releases align with industry standards.

The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders. They should also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to manage multiple external relationships simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain release schedules, tracking progress against timelines and ensuring that all dependencies are identified and addressed.
  • Coordinate and manage the release process, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that releases are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and dependencies that may impact the release, including development, testing, and operations.
  • Communicate release status and progress to stakeholders, including senior management, project managers, and development teams.
  • Continuously improve the release process by identifying and implementing process improvements, automation, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and IT teams to ensure the smooth operation of release tools, systems, and processes.
  • Ensure that all software releases meet regulatory, compliance, and security requirements.

Key Qualifications & Experiences

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in release management, software development, or project management.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of software development processes and tools, including continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, version control systems, and issue tracking systems.
  • Experience with release management tools and platforms, such as Jenkins, GitLab, or similar.
  • Familiarity with regulatory, compliance, and security requirements for software releases.

Desired:

  • University Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent degree
  • Knowledge & experience of the travel industry and understanding of the travel distribution landscape, GDSs, low-cost carriers, other content
  • Multiple languages (Chinese ideal – to facilitate regular communication with the China-based team members and clients)
